Homeland - Original Fine Art
Mixed Media on Canvas, 59x49cm, 2024
This painting evolved over the space of a year with each session being approached with the intention of being able to express myself freely without judgment, fear, nor hesitation.
But it wasn’t easy at all, and layer upon layer represented an internal struggle.
Eventually, it became clear to me that the difficulty I was having in creating this piece was linked to my relationship with my Scottish homeland. And then, after many months of ignoring the piece as it sat in the corner of my studio, I made a new friend here in Australia who also came from Scotland…
Without much thought, I pulled out this painting and the finishing touches suddenly came together; the texture of many previous marks soothed by layers of shimmering metallics and gold leaf.
…
Without knowing the backstory, the same Scottish friend bought this piece in a heartbeat. It seems it was always meant for her.
